The new boy song of 2012 (Shake the Papaya Down), as performed during their first Wednesday concert on 15 February 2012.

New Boy Co-Ordinator, Bea van der Sandt reports:

What you see and hear is the result of 4 weeks of training with the New Boy group of 2012. They are currently working towards acquiring skills in aural training, music theory and stage and touring protocol. We are proud of them and congratulate these young men on an inspiring first performance!

The 2012 Midmar Mile was once again a successful event for the DBCS family. We had 15 Boys and one staff member enter into the competition. For the past four weeks, each boy trained hard, daily, and strived to outdo one another. The DBCS team was split over three races. The first of which was completed on Saturday (11 February) with the final two races being swum on Sunday.

On Sunday morning at 5am, with a hint of excitement in the air, a school sprinter was loaded and departed for Midmar Dam. Our own fan club met us at the dam, with one mother even opting to join us on the sprinter!

We arrived at the starting point with a lot of time to spare. This allowed the swimmers to relax and provided them the opportunity to mingle with the other school groups. The ladies event started off and our junior boys (13 years and under) began to prepare for their event. After copious amounts of suntan lotion had been applied, and with each boy checking his cap & tag numerous times, the group of swimmers were ushered away to the holing areas for each cap.

The rest of the swimmers then began the long wait for the next event – this was over three hours long! Fortunately there were a few Old Boys around and also a couple of parents available to keep the group company. Once again, after applying suntan lotion and double checking the race numbers & caps, each boy was ushered into the holding areas.

After the boys had complete their swim, the group was stationed at the school gazebo, complete with banners, and was afforded the opportunity to walk around the stalls, browse and of course purchase food!

The day was a successful one, and many thanks go out to the parents and friends of DBCS who assisted throughout the day!
