For the DBCS boys to succeed they must understand the society in which they are living and dealing with, and, for this reason, the school makes a concerted effort to introduce its boys to the changing world.
The boys are offered a number of ways to reach out to the community. For example, the boys assist young children in the nearby Champagne Valley School on a one to one basis in various subjects, whilst the staff mentors the school’s educators in various teaching skills.
The outreach programme teaches the students empathy, particularly for the less privileged, and how to recognize the worth and importance of those who have been discriminated against in the past.
The DBCS Outreach Program currently includes the Champagne Valley Primary School, Meadowsweet Combined School and Nkwethu Children’s Village in Loskop. This program was started as an educational service provider to the neighboring schools and local disadvantaged communities.
This programme depends on continued support from parents in the form of donations (clothing, learning support material, toys, etc.) and the sharing of facilities, knowledge and expertise from learners and staff of the DBCS.
